The 'Day Out' Series | Snape Maltings

Snape Maltings is located in the village of Snape, Suffolk, five miles from Aldeburgh on the Suffolk coast and just two hours by train from London. It's a bit of a visitor destination and classified as an area of outstanding natural beauty, especially as it is a centre of music – founded by Suffolk-born composer Benjamin Britten.

It's definitely not a stand-alone doggy destination, but after a long day out on one of the many local beaches, it's a place that the humans like to mooch around because it has lovely little craft shops where they can spend quite a bit of their money.

The area is popular with dog walkers, and the village says it welcomes us hounds, although their website states "dogs are not permitted inside any of the shops, cafés or venues. There are plenty of places to secure your dog and water bowls provided around the site. However, dogs are welcome in outdoor seating at the Granary Tea Shop, the terrace outside the Concert Hall Café as well as in part of the Plough and Sail pub and its courtyard seating."

This is very true and because it was a lovely day when we visited, Mummy and I didn't mind sitting outside and enjoying the ambient surroundings while munching on our lunch.

There are lots of things for humans to explore and because I was wonderfully mellow after my long walk, I didn't mind that my Mummy spent time peering through shop windows with her nose pressed up against them longingly at all the things she could buy. That's one good thing about being a solo traveller, Mummy doesn't get to go into many shops as she won't leave me outside: this means she saves her pennies to buy me more bandanas!

Snape Maltings is definitely a place worthy of a sandwich and a quick lemonade for doggy parents who need some refreshment, along with a bit of retail therapy after a day ball throwing on the beaches, but our rating reflects the restrictions placed on us hounds, which isn't great for the solo traveller, who can't do much except walk around ... and if they

are lucky, to find a trusty human to hold a lead while they order the much longed for refreshments.
